Almost a Snow Day

Posted by Nancy on February 12, 2010

Despite the foot of snow that hit us on Wednesday, (in addition to the 18 inches we got on Saturday) I was able to make it in to work today.  Keith, however, works in the City which was pretty much shut down, and course schools were closed, so he and Vinny had another day off.   Keith got up and outside to dig my car out (thank god) and I had a few minutes to wander around the front yard taking a few shots in the sunlight before I left for the day.  I took them in a hurry though, I wish I had more time.  It was so hard driving in to work, not because the roads were horrible, (and they were) but because I felt like I was missing so many shots!  I’m so starved for sunlight, I truly love the snow, but I can’t wait for spring so I have more opportunity to play with sunlight.

My husband shoveling out the mailbox area. It doesn't look like he's getting anywhere fast does it?

We’re expecting another 6 to 8 inches on Monday, so I hear.  It’s been about 15 years since we’ve had a winter like this.

Outdoors With My Pixel Partner

Posted by Nancy on January 11, 2010

I finally made it outside with Amy yesterday.   We walked around the woods behind our houses, walked down to the lake for a bit and then back to the woods again.   It was 18 degrees.  We couldn’t feel our fingers for the first 30 minutes or so.  Every time I lined up a shot, I had to take the camera away from my eye to find the shutter button because my fingers were frozen, but we started to warm up after we moved around a bit.

Here I am moving around a bit…..

You gotta love that.  Thanks to Amy for the photo.

Amy and I have talked many times about how bored we are with the woods.  All we have around here are trees and lakes (which is why we live here) but it can get annoying when you want to shoot something and there’s always a tree in the way.  Forget trying to get a sunrise or sunset, you have to drive 10 minutes away for a decent one.  Yesterday I didn’t seem to mind the trees at all.  I’ve been “studying” Flickr alot lately and it’s renewed my interest in shooting the woods.

Have a happy Monday!

More Snow, Project 365 and Happy New Year

Posted by Nancy on December 31, 2009

When I woke up this morning we had about a half an inch of snow on the ground, and it was still coming down.  We got about an inch or so total.  I waited for it to stop and then grabbed my camera along with a couple Christmas ornaments off of the tree, took a walk back in the woods and got the following shots.

I decided to do Project 365 again this year.  Last year, I think I only made it through to March.  However I want to give another try.  It’s the only New Years resolution I’m making, that is, “pick one thing and finish it.”

If you’re interested in trying Project 365 at Flickr (a photo a day for one year), here’s the link…..

Project 365

I was glad Liz decided to start a new group for 2010.  I must say for the three months that I did the project last year, I gained an incredible amount of photography knowledge.  This year, I cheated.  I already have my first 6 days worth of photos completed.  I figure if I get a head start, I might make it through 365 days, however if I make it somewhere in the 200’s, I’ll be happy.

It’s time for me to have a beer.  Happy 2010!

Hello Again

Fall

Well, I think I’ve taken a long enough break.  I’ve been keeping busy catching up on things around the house.  I love autumn.  I’m starting to tear the house apart, doing a spring cleaning of sorts, getting ready to paint and stuff like that.  Hopefully I’ll be able to find some time to shoot in the coming days.

I’m Bored

Posted by Nancy on October 7, 2009

Mums2Mums

When I walked out my door yesterday to head to work, the sun was pouring on a garden in my front yard.  I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a few pictures.  Actually, I’m bored to death with taking nature photos.  It’s good practice, but I’d rather get out on the street and try something different.  I think Amy and I are gonna have to get out the props this weekend and hit some of the back roads.  I need something to spark my imagination. Though I like the way these pictures came out, I’d like to be a little more creative.

I got this the other day when Amy and I were out on Main Street.  Though I thought it was stupid when I took it, there’s something about it that I like.  I think it’s the colors in the background.
