1. My family and friends.
2. That first cup of morning coffee.
3. Self expression (without fear).
4. Being “snowed in.”
5. Time to myself in the early morning hours.
6. Hearing the words…”Thanks mom.”
7. The first warm day in Spring.
8. Art.
9. My Canon Rebel, and the ability to know how to use it.
My friend Sheila did a “Happiness is” post on her blog. I thought I would give it a try too. Obviously, I have much more to be happy about, I just picked a few.
Have a wonderful Friday!

This snow storm that we’re supposedly getting is all over the place. One minute we’re getting 12 inches, the next it’s 6. Nobody knows for sure. When I listened to the news last night it was supposed to snow heavy today. So I wore jeans and snow boots to work (of course, it didn’t snow heavy at all, it was pushed off til later tonight.) I walk into the office this morning and see that my boss is dressed up. I expected him to be in jeans and boots too, he usually is when it snows. I asked him why he was dressed up, he said….
“Why do I always feel like your secretary?”
My response…. “Huh?”
“Don’t you know what’s on the schedule today?”
“Huh?”
I had forgotten all about the big meeting with the Mayor, the CEO of a local hospital, and bunch of other important people.
Whoops.
He was cool with it though. If he wasn’t, I wouldn’t be blogging about it, I’d be working on my resume’ instead.
So after the big important meeting, I went out on the porch, set my rebel up on the gorillapod (which I appropriately named, “Israel“), and took this picture of myself standing in the window.

I don’t get much opportunity to shoot in natural light this time of year, since I’m working when the light is best. (Can’t wait for Spring.) I shoot a few pictures here and there at the office during the day, but I do have work to get done. This self portrait was taken on Friday morning before I left for work. I literally had about five minutes, and shooting wasn’t on my mind, but when I saw that light coming in from my bedroom window, I couldn’t help but get my camera out. Not having time to get anything ready, I took about 15 shots of myself in the mirror. The tones, the starburst and the grain were added using Picnik.

Today, (Saturday) I got my shopping done quickly so I would have some time to shoot in the afternoon light. I bought some flowers at Produce Junction, got quite a deal, two bunches for 3 bucks! I don’t know where my husband was, but there was some guy in my house vacuuming my floors and cleaning my bathroom, so I stayed in the kitchen, cut up my flowers and took some time to shoot. I wasn’t going anywhere near the bathroom.

Hopefully, the sun will be out again tomorrow, I should have plenty of time to play, now that I don’t have to clean the house. I’m hoping that guy will show up again and cook me dinner.

MY FIRST CONCERT
July 29, 1983, I was 14 years old. My brother Jeff was already living in North Carolina. My brother Jim was headed down there for a visit, and either he or my parents (I don’t remember which) thought I should tag along. So Jim comes to the house to pick me up, we pack the car, say good-bye to our parents and head for North Carolina.
Or so I thought.
As we’re driving, Jim says, “We have to make a stop.” I asked where we were going, he said, “The Philadelphia Zoo.”
“Why are we going to the Zoo?”
“I’ve got tickets to The Ramones and the B52’s and I don’t want to miss it.”
“We’re going to a concert? Cool.”
(Such a “Jim” move.)
Needless to say, I was a tad bit shocked when we got there. There were mosh pits going on all over the place. At the time, I had no idea what a “mosh pit” was, I just thought they were all on drugs. The people, the clothes, the hair, the makeup, I felt like I had just walked into another world. Of course, I thought it was cool. I remember seeing a girl walking around wearing Christmas balls for earrings. That was cool. The only thing that really freaked me out was the old guy walking around in a white tunic. He had long hair, a long beard and told everyone he was Jesus. My brother grabbed me by the arm and whispered in my ear, “Stay away from that guy.”
Overall, I thought it was awesome. Jim made sure we got up real close, front and center stage actually. So there I was 14 years old watching The Ramones perform “I Wanna Be Sedated.”
If my parents only knew.

We got 2 feet of snow again on Saturday. This time I went outside to help Keith shovel, since Kyle never showed up. (Something about him not doing any manual labor…i don’t know.)
Anxious to take some pictures, I drug this bench out to the street and got this shot for Bench Anyday. I would have tried to find more props but it was late in the afternoon and the lighting wasn’t great, I didn’t have much time left to set something up. My friend Patti was outside shoveling her driveway when I heard her say….”What the hell is she doing!? You gotta love her.”
Which made me laugh.
Keith just shook his head and rolled his eyes at me, but I did catch him smiling.

The first of my February self portraits.
I’m longing for Spring, it’s freezing cold here. The only good news is we’re supposed to get a foot of snow on Saturday. While my husband is dreading it, I’m looking forward to it. I do love the snow. I’m sure I’ll be “playing” in it with Amy. Lots of photo opportunity.
Happy Thursday.

I’ve joined the Bench craze over at Flickr. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, but thought it might be a little too much with all of my other projects. So I gave it a test run at the park on Saturday. I spent an hour there Saturday morning, brought my tripod and my remote and gave it a whirl (even though it was, yet again, 18 degrees.) Having been happy with the swing shot, I thought I would go ahead and join Bench Anyday. The original group is Bench Monday, but the rules are take your picture on a Monday and post to Flickr on a Monday. I can’t possibly do anything like this on a Monday, since I’m at work all day, Bench Anyday suits my schedule better. The object is to stand on a bench, or if you don’t have a bench make something up, like I did with the swing, be as creative as possible, for instance, use props to create a theme. It’s a great idea, you can get really carried away with it. I didn’t use any props this weekend, as I’m just starting out, I thought I would keep it simple.
I did this one standing on my coffee table Sunday morning.

It’s loads of fun and I have all kinds of ideas running through my head, but it takes some preparation time. I don’t anticipate being able to do more than one a week, but we’ll see how it goes. Like I said, I can see myself getting carried away with this.

I’ve done alot of self portraits lately. I’m always behind the camera so I thought I should take some pictures of myself or there won’t be any. I read a post on Flickr once about self-portraits, the girl wrote, “It’s confidence, not narcissism.” Love that.
When I did the egg for this one, I was waiting for Keith to come into the kitchen and ask me why I was taking pictures of an egg with a smiley face on it. But he never did. Actually, he probably wouldn’t have asked, he would have done what he usually does, which is start singing really loud…. “Viiiiiny, your motherrrr has lost her mind, son!” That would be the typical response. No, this layout doesn’t mean I love eggs, just that I’m happy.

Did this one for Mosiac Monday at Flickr. I used that cool Mosiac Maker that I love so much.
